Nickey came to Virginia in September 2002 to join her husband at Langley Air Force Base. She started working with Poquoson Veterinary Hospital very shortly after the move. He has since retired from the military and they have decided to make Hampton their permanent home. Nickey has been a veterinary receptionist since 1990 and has worked in four different states. She spends most of her free time boating with her husband and her son. The family shares their home with two orange tabby cats and one black cat: Killian, Stoli, and Kahlua.
Cathy is Virginia native and has been with the team at Poquoson Veterinary Hospital since 2003. She was a Veterinary Assistant and has now been a Veterinary Receptionist since 2013. Cathy received her Associate’s in Science from Thomas Nelson Community College. She enjoys sharing her own experiences with clients and answering any questions they may have. When Cathy is not working hard at Poquoson Veterinary Hospital, she is spending time with her husband and step-daughter. They share their time with 3 dogs small dogs and a really cool cat.
Barbara received her Bachelors degree in Biology from Christopher Newport University in 1994 and then went on to get her Associates degree in Veterinary Technology from Blue Ridge Community College in 2000. Barbara started working at Poquoson Veterinary Hospital in January of 1998. Barbara enjoys all aspects of her career because of the variety of tasks presented to her every day but she especially likes the nursing care part of her job. Working with injured, sick and surgical patients is where she excels. She also enjoys working with wildlife and fostering orphaned animals. Barbara has four dogs, a black lab named Charlotte, two Chihuahuas, Suishy and Sugar, and a Papillion named Juicy. She also has two cats, Birdie and Grace, which she got when they were one day old. When Barbara is not working she likes to garden, sew, do crafts, spend time outdoors enjoying nature, and go to the beach. Barbara also makes pet bandanas that are for sale in the Poquoson Veterinary Hospital waiting room.
Amy is a 1997 graduate of Blue Ridge Community College where she completed the Veterinary Technology program. Since then, she has been working as a licensed veterinary technician in small animal medicine. Amy has been a member of the PVH team since May of 2002, when she and husband, Justin, returned to Virginia after his 4-year commitment to the Army. Though she enjoys all aspects of her roll as an LVT, she has special interests in dentistry, surgery and ultrasonography. When not working, Amy adores spending time with her husband and two girls. She enjoys the outdoors, reading and life on their growing farm. The furry family includes: dogs, Brogan and Butterball, two kitties, Ringo and Angel, horses, Buckwheat and Raven and a slew of chickens.
Tara is a Poquoson resident and has been with PVH since 2002. Growing up Tara was either riding horses or trying to bring snakes & turtles into the house as her new pets. In addition to her work as a Veterinary Assistant, she is also the Inventory Manager. She enjoys working with cats & dogs as well as exotic & "pocket" pets. In her free time Tara enjoys gardening, cooking & letting her Shih-Poo Bash boss her around.
Hillary joined Poquoson Veterinary Hospital in 2007. She was a kennel assistant for 4 years before moving to North Carolina. She returned to the area in 2013 and has been a Veterinary Assistant with us since her return. Hillary has 2 dogs at home that she considers her babies; Lilly, a Maltese and Bella, a Yorkie/Border Terrier Mix. When Hillary is not working, she enjoys spending time walking her dogs on the many different trails our area has to offer, going to the beach and spending time with friends and family.
Sarah began her career as a Veterinary Assistant in 1996 while living in Southern California. After moving back to Virginia, she joined the Poquoson Veterinary team in November 1999. Sarah currently shares her home with a variety of pets - her cat Hootie, Jack the rat, 2 zebra finches, 1 canary, 1 cockatiel, a tree frog and an aquarium. In her spare time, Sarah enjoys reading, arts and crafts, and traveling with her family.
Originally from the Boston area, Amy and her family moved to Tidewater and joined Poquoson Veterinary Hospital in 2001. She has an Associates Degree in Exercise Science. Amy is a Master Trainer with and is a certified Fitness Instructor with the American Council on Exercise and the International Sports Sciences Association. Other than her love for fitness and nutrition, Amy enjoys providing the best care for patients while at the hospital. Amy shares her love for animals at home as much as she does at work. Her pet family consists of four cats (Gizmo, Miss Gabby, Slinky boy and Uggs), a dog (Calli) and a parakeet (Giselle). When Amy is not working she enjoys spending time with her family and friends and, of course, snuggling with all her adorable critters. Her dog, Calli likes to go on long walks. Amy also likes to attend concerts, rollerblade and is a huge sports fan. Her teams consist of the Red Sox, Patriots, Bruins and the Celtics.
Mykayla is an Air Force brat who was born in Guam. She has lived in Virginia since 2010 and graduated from Tabb High School in June 2014. She is a certified Kennel Assistant through New Horizons program. Mykayla has been with Poquoson Veterinary Hospital since 2011. She has loved animals ever since she could drop her cheerios on the floor and watching her dog, Boomer, scramble to catch them. Mylayla shares her home with four cats, Pedey, Neko, Zoey and Simba. In the future, Mykayla aspires to become a Licensed Veterinary Technician or a Veterinarian. When Mykayla is not at school or at PVH, she likes to hang out with her friends, go to the beach, and listen to music.
Rachel came to us in February 2014. She has worked in the veterinary field since May 2011. She loves all animals big and small, and she lives in Newport News with her two cats; Kissa and Smokey, her two dogs; Gabby, a hound mix and Buddy, a greyhound mix adopted from the S.P.C.A.; 2 turtles and a Leopard Gecko named Reptar. She loves spending time with her family and friends, and playing pool on her days off.
